Christ Figures

Growing up Christian, Jesus Christ was always talked about. He was the one in whom we based our faith on as will as God the Father. He is the center of Christianity. One thing I have always wondered was if there were more Christ-Like figures spread throughout all history. So I decided to delve in to it.

There were quite a few gods or people who had similar qualities to Jesus from the Bible. Before I delve in to them, I found this research quite interesting. The biggest thing I found interesting was that about every thing I researched on them, a lot of the articles pointed out that they were sent to show one attribute of one main God! One God who is in charge of everything and who we need examples of to start understanding who this God is.

Another interesting thing is that out of all the Christ-like figures, only one of them was truly blameless, and he wasn’t blameless until later in life. This was the Buddha. He set of on a journey to become one with everything around him. He succeeded which is where Buddhism starts, and his journey of being blameless is.

The final interesting thing that I found was that Jesus was the only one I found that died, was resurrected, then ascended in to Heaven. Only one other figure was resurrected, but he never walked along with man again after he was resurrected. He was saved and walked with the gods to remember the joy he had.

Buddha

The Buddha was a man set in a time where he was either to be a great ruler or a great spiritual leader. His parents wanted him to be a great ruler, but he wanted a simple life, with a free mind. His journey started around 30 years of age when he left home to meditate and become one with the world around him. This journey lasted him six years. After his journey, his teaching began and that’s when he was considered blameless, and people started to follow him. This started Buddhism and what it is today. People still follow the Buddha and try to become one with the world around them.

Krishna

Krishna is a Hindu god. When Krishna was a baby, his life was threatened and so was put on a river to save his life, just like Jesus was. Krishna was known for performing many miracles and slaying demons. Krishna was known for his love. He loved to love just about anyone, in any way he could. This was an attribute for the one God. He was shot in the heel which killed him.

Romulus

Romulus was known as the son of a god. His mother was a virgin who was either raped or had sexual relations with one of the gods in mythology. No one really knows what happened to lead to him and his brother being born, but that his mother was a virgin before she was impregnated. Like Jesus, his life was threatened shortly after he was born, and the servant sent to kill him spared him and his brothers life. He later went on to become the Father/Founder of Rome.

Dionysus

He was known as the god of wine and would turn water into wine quite often. He was known as the son of the god, Zeus. Out of all the research I did, he was the one that was resurrected. The Titans didn’t like him so they chopped him up and ate him. Zeus saved his heart and was resurrected as a god so the people could remember the joy he provided throughout the time he was alive.

Hercules

He was known as the son of Zeus who did a number of good works to help the people. He saved them from a lot of terrible beasts.

Glycon

Glycon was a Roman god that was sent down as a snake to walk among men. I didn’t find too much on him except that he was incarnate and came down to be among men.

Zoroaster

Zoroaster was an Iranian reformer and priest and was known for preaching about one God and the attributes that he had. No one is really sure when he died or how he died, but he was a famous priest for Ahura Mazda.

These are the big list I found for Christ-like figures, but none were quite as well known as Jesus was. There are recordings of Jesus throughout the first four books of the Bible as well as historical findings confirming that Jesus did in fact walk the earth. It was quite an interesting topic to research and I am thankful that I did.
